Make yourself a promise that you will only pack what’s on that list and nothing more. Most frequent flyers and veteran travelers have a standard packing list for hand luggage which is suitable for a great variety of countries.
Tip!: When making a list, try to list your items in order of priority. Is your backpack already full halfway your list? There might be a good possibility there are still some unnecessary items on your list. Reconsider your list until only the most necessary products are available.
2. Choose your bag
Take some time to dig into the fascinating world of suitcases and backpacks. Most bags have a fancy design or some nice branding on them, but if you want to travel lightweight they might not be the best. When you are looking for a suitable lightweight bag it is important to take in the design of the bag.
- Is it suitable for your kind of traveling?
- How many compartments does the bag have?
- Check for sturdy seams and zippers
- Look for bags made of recycled materials. Although several companies start with producing recycled backpacks, many companies do not
3. Leave fluids at home
Fluids are a real killer if you want to travel light, try to avoid them as much as possible. Liquids & Gels are heavy, take in a lot of space, leak quickly and it will cause trouble with airport security.
Tip!: Instead of liquid soaps & shampoos, take soap bars. Small in size, lightweight and cheaper. (Check our webshop for organic solid shampoos and body soaps)
4. Wash your clothes

Tip!: Bring these items to wash your clothes while traveling.
- Washing powder
- Sink stopper
- Clothing line
5. Bring a smartphone
Although it can be a tough decision to leave your SLR Camera and laptop at home, your smartphone can be an excellent lightweight replacement. Use it to book flights and train tickets, read books, to Skype, listen to music and to make stunning pictures which fill your Instagram feed. Overall your smartphone can be a very powerful all-round device.
