Currently, we are extremely busy with the preparations for our Bike Expedition around the world. The most time-consuming preparations are those for our two dogs. Luckily it is all for a good cause because they will be traveling with us in all the comfort they are used to.
Most effort is the paperwork that needs to be completed before we start with the expedition. There are many, many, many import requirements per country which need to be checked. To name the most common: microchips, multiple vaccinations, blood tests and health certificates. At the moment we’ve been almost finished with completing these requirements, so we can focus on the next part: Travel Gear for our dogs.
Traveling by Trailer
While for only a few years ago, a dog was only allowed to sleep in the garage and to eat the left-overs. Nowadays, dogs are becoming a real part of the family, children have to share their toys with them and for the fashionista dogs, there is even some designer clothing on the market. Besides that we need to pack more toys for ''our children'' than an average 3-year old could ever dream of, another very important equipment is a proper dog trailer.
Since we’re are lots of time busy with cycling our route and it would be crazy to let them walk the 35000 kilometers, it is necessary for us to use a dog trailer during our expedition. The most important requirements for our trailer is that the dogs can eat and sleep in comfort and that they have shelter against the elements of nature (wind, rain, sun, and snow).
Nowadays, more and more dog trailers are arriving at the market. From 1000+ dollar gold plated and diamond decorated trailers which would be perfect for Kim to take Kanye with her, but also $100 trailers with which you can bring poochy while doing groceries. Since our expedition is a little different than doing groceries in a local shop and our dogs aren’t celebrities (yet), we thought that a trailer in between these two extremes would do the job. Therefore we chose for an upcoming Dutch brand: DoggyRide.
DoggyRide Novel 10
The Novel 10 gives our dogs the opportunity to join us on our expedition in supreme style. Since we needed a trailer which is tough and can be used in the outdoors many accessories have been build on to make it as comfortable as possible for our dogs. To bring extra food and water a roof rack has been attached to the top, a luxury sleeping mat have been added and a kickstand so we can use it as a temporary bench. And since we’re Dutch the color was picked orange to celebrate Dutch heritage.
